Beginning to mobilise

This group has been set up to investigate how we can use mobile technologies in ILS to deliver and promote our services and resources. The aims we've set out are:
  • Investigate mobile technologies with particular application to ILS Services
  • To examine the use of mobile technologies to support students in their learning
  • To implement key projects that will enhance the use of resources and promote ILS services
  • To examine and evaluate good practice in the HE sector

In our first few meetings we brainstormed the kinds of things that we might want to implement including:
  • Text message notifications
  • Delivering inductions via mobile devices
  • Providing course materials via mobiles
  • Making library systems available on mobiles
Before diving in and getting to work on implementing anything we decided to take a step back and look at what has already been done at other instutions. We also felt it was important to survey our users and see what they're already using and what services they would be interested in seeing on their mobiles.

We're working on both of these tasks at the moment and as we form more concrete ideas of what we're going to do we'll update here.
